With the series of holidays leading up to the Dussehra festival, liquor sales have surged.

Excise officials reported that ₹713.25 crores worth of liquor has been sold in the past 9 days.

As Dussehra is tomorrow, it is expected that sales will be even higher over the next three days.

This year’s figures are really impressive. Sales are expected to increase by ₹350 crores compared to last year’s numbers for the same period.

What’s particularly interesting is that, while beer has traditionally been the favorite, liquor sales are now taking the lead.

This change suggests that people’s preferences are shifting during the festive season.

In October 2023, Telangana saw liquor sales soar to ₹2,900 crore.

This surge marks a significant increase from the average daily sales of ₹80 crore that are typical outside of festival times.

The dramatic rise in sales not only reflects the celebratory spirit of Dussehra but also the growing acceptance and cultural significance of liquor consumption in social settings.

Meanwhile, in Kerala, the Onam festivities brought liquor sales to a record ₹818 crore.

This all-time high highlights the importance of alcohol in the state’s celebrations.

The Onam festival, celebrated with feasting and communal gatherings, plays a significant role in boosting sales.

Liquor sales in Telangana consistently see a significant hike every year during the Dussehra festival.
